The biggest problem with Pirhana will face (for me, at least) is the fact that the original was a Joe Dante movie. Even if the creators are trying to make schlock, you're not going to make better schlock than Joe Dante, who always brought his own wicked subversions of Americana with him.

In a lot of ways, I think the best comparison for the Step Up movies (or any dance movies in general) is martial arts flicks. In both, while the plot is merely a flimsy pretense to have dances/fights, you still need a star who can bring charisma to the leading role that you can hinge your enjoyment on. Or, at least, I assume that of dance movies, since I've never actually seen one.

Dorian, Scott Pilgrim obviously isn't for you, and that's cool, but to turn around and call it "pandering" when you haven't read the damn thing is frankly kind of a jerk move. If Scott Pilgrim is pandering for throwing in a handful of video game references, I'm having a hard time coming up with a piece of popular entertainment that isn't "pandering".
